True Detective November 2015

Playboy Bunny Eve Stratford was beautiful and ambitious – and seemingly destined for a life of glamour, success and riches. But that future was cruelly taken from her when she was brutally murdered in London in 1975. The case remains unsolved but could that soon be about to change? DNA evidence collected from the crime scene 40 years ago suggests that the killer also murdered schoolgirl Lynne Weedon and, possibly, a third victim.

As a 15-year-old boy Edmund Kemper, the subject of this month’s America’s Most Evil, murdered his grandparents – but this act of wanton brutality was to be just the start of a monstrously depraved career. Handed his freedom, the towering six-foot-nine-inch Kemper then embarked on a savage spell of killing and necrophilia which terrorised the student population of early-70s California.

November 8th, 2015, marks the 50th anniversary of the Act of Parliament which abolished capital punishment in the UK. Some 17 killers who had been sentenced to death were destined to be reprieved – and you can read about them all on page 45 (the final page of this month’s Hanged For Murder). The anniversary coincides by all but two days with the 50th birthday of our researcher Matthew Spicer, without whose tireless efforts much of this aspect of British criminal history would have gone unchronicled. Thank you Matthew, and many happy returns – we take our hats off to you!
