By most standards Stephen Seddon was a pretty fortunate only son. When he was jobless and short of cash, his elderly parents took equity release from their home and used the money to buy him his house. On top of that they lent him another £40,000.

That wasn’t enough for the greedy Seddon. He wanted all their money, most of which was tied up in their own modest home. He wanted them dead.

So he staged a car crash in which his parents were strapped into the back seat, driving his car into a canal. Miraculously they survived. The couple were rescued by the fire brigade and 46-year-old Seddon, the ungrateful son who had failed to kill them, was ironically nominated for a bravery reward.

Four months later he tried to quench his “insatiable thirst for cash” by blasting off their heads with a sawn-off shotgun.

This time they both died…
