The life of 22-year-old Yvonne Pearson came to an abrupt, horrific end in Bradford on the night of JANUARY 21st, 1978, when she became the seventh victim of Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire Ripper.

He wielded a walling hammer to smash her skull into 17 pieces, and rammed stuffing from a settee into her mouth to stop her moaning. But it took even more hammer blows to shut her up for good, he told the police.

He detested prostitutes, he said, claiming that God had told him to rid the world of them. Convicted in 1981 of 13 murders of women, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. He remains in Broadmoor to this day.
