On December 29th, 1960, the body of 11-year-old Sandra Smith was found in bushes in North Beach, Perth, Western Australia. She was accosted and lured to the killer’s house where she was raped and then strangled with a stocking by Mervyn Fallows, 33, a carpenter and a paedophile with a long criminal record. He was hanged on Tuesday, June 6th, 1961, at 8 a.m. in Fremantle Prison. The hangman received £50 for his work.
