Because of the notoriety of the four prisoners charged with murder, police kept crowds 300 yards away from the prison where they were held during their two-week trial. Louis Morel, Frank Gambino, Anthony Frank and Giuseppe Serafini had shot dead a bank guard when they attacked and robbed a security van in the streets of Montreal.

All four were sentenced to death in Montreal on June 23rd, 1924, and hanged on Friday, October 24th that same year.
