Store manager Lester Jacobs reacted valiantly when two intruders held him up with a revolver while he was making last entries in his ledger book late at night. He picked up a pair of scales and flung them at one of the gunmen.

The other one immediately opened fire and killed Mr. Jacobs with a bullet through the heart.

The bandits fled empty-handed but a 14-year-old stock boy who was hiding at the back of the store saw them. His description of one of the men led police to 19-year-old career burglar John Feltovic, who was immediately arrested. On Tuesday, December 10th, 1929, nine months after the murder in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Feltovic was hanged in the state prison. Worldwide Hangings from True Crime Library.
