Stripped naked, raped, strangled with a lanyard and dumped in bushes on a bombsite this was the fate of Isabel Wardle, 32, who came from the north-east of England to work as a prostitute in Portsmouth.
She had been in the naval city for only a few weeks and was already known under several different aliases when her body was found on Saturday, August 9th, 1947.
