The advertisement offered five lucrative salesmen’s jobs with a New York oil company – but the applicants had to pay $200 up front. The interviews were to be held in Montreal by Henri L?gault. But L?gault, a career criminal, had no jobs and there was no oil company – his plan was simply to get his hands on five lots of $200.

Jean-Claude Perrault, 21, was the first job-seeker to turn up. His body was found in a dense forest in Quebec Province in March, 1958, two months after he disappeared. It appeared that at his “interview” there was an altercation during which L?gault punched him so viciously that his head was split open and he died.

L?gault was hanged in the early hours of Friday, February 27th, 1959, in Montreal Prison
