Jamaican Rupert Morrison, 31, stabbed his girlfriend Hazel Dacres 16 times through the breasts, but when he was brought to trial for murder at Birmingham Assizes on MARCH 28th, 1961, he claimed that the killing was an accident.

“I loved her very much,” he added, “but she did not want me.”

Morrison, of Crompton Road, Handsworth, claimed that Hazel picked up the knife and that she must have been stabbed during the ensuing struggle. He was found guilty, sentenced to life, and released and deported in 1970 after serving nine years.
