Cambridge Police found two children, both under 10, shot to death when they went to a house in Regent Street after a disturbance on Saturday, APRIL 5th, 1913. Elsewhere in the house they found the body of 56-year-old Captain Albert Schule, also dead from a gunshot wound.

Captain Schule was a German army officer. He came to England after the Franco-Prussian War, in which he received terrible facial wounds. He was known as a bit of an eccentric in Cambridge, where he gave German lessons.

Six weeks before the tragedy his wife had died in childbirth. Overcome with grief, he had killed his two children and then committed suicide.
