“This is one of the most foul deeds that I have ever had to deal with,” said Mr. Justice Tasker-Watkins, sentencing Graham Bowen, 31, to life for the murder of 14-year-old Amanda Randall.

Bowen had become besotted with the girl, a part-time worker at the Llanelli pickle factory where he was employed as a fitter. On the evening of NOVEMBER 10th, 1978, he half-strangled her in the factory and then drove her to a lonely lane in the village of Felinfoel, where he attacked her with an axe, mutilating and sexually assaulting her.

At Swansea Crown Court on July 26th, 1979, he was sentenced to life imprisonment.
