It was a puzzling case, declared the coroner, when he was told that the body of Mrs. Eva Booth, had been found in a cupboard at her home in Venn Way, Hartley, Plymouth. “Perhaps it was an accident. Perhaps her attacker hadn’t meant to kill her, and hid her in the cupboard because he was panicking.”

The police were not so sure. They believed that on January 25th, 1960, the old lady got into an argument and was subsequently attacked and suffocated. The coroner’s jury agreed with that and returned a verdict of murder. By whom still remains a mystery.
