One of the pillars of the British establishment in India detested by the countrys independence fighters was the Peshawar hospital on the north-west frontier. It was here on July 22nd, 1932, that an Indian hospital orderly, Abdul Rashid, appeared to go berserk when he attacked the hospitals senior doctor, Captain William Coldstream, 31. The captain was stabbed in the neck as he walked from his office to perform an operation.
Because fanatics were always targeting the hospital, the murder was judged as politically motivated. Rashid was convicted at Peshawar sessions court six days later and hanged in the citys Central Prison on Thursday, September 1st, 1932.
