On November 15th, 1963,
the body of a little girl, eight-year-old Janet Taylor, was found in a field about a mile from her home in Boringdon Avenue, St. Budeaux, near Plymouth. She had been strangled but not sexually assaulted.

The police arrested Raymond Allen, 24, who had learning difficulties. At Bristol Assizes on FEBRUARY 10th, 1964, he pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility and was ordered to be detained in a mental hospital.
