Description

Her relationship was a sham masquerading as "the best marriage in the universe," Nancy Kissel confided to a friend in an email from Hong Kong, where she and her husband were living. Nancy’s way of dealing with this was somewhat unconventional – she spiked his strawberry milshake with sedatives and bludgeoned him to death with a statuette.

Nancy claimed that she was acting in self-defence after her husband attempted to rape her and repeatedly hit her over the head with a baseball bat. The following four days were a blur; she said, although the prosecution disagreed. She covered her tracks very well, and after warapping her husband’s body up in a carpet got four Chinese workmen employed at her apartment complex to carry the heavy bundle to a storeroom she rented in the basement, ignoring their complaints that the package smelled of fish.

The trial attracted so many spectators that the judge ordered a queuing system to be devised, but readers of True Detective don’t have to move from their sofa’s to discover all the details of what really happened between the Kissels and what the jury decided.

We also take you into a Tennessee courtroom in 1925 to hear one of the most famous cross-examinsation of our times when Clarence Darrow took on the Christian fundamentalist movement.

And if you’ve ever wondered if some killers are mad or just plain bad then read Boy Murderer to Monster. True Detective takes you through the extraordinary life of a boy who convinced psychiatrists that he was perfectly sane and went on to invent a murder machine…for kicks.

Please note – Many of the cases in the American issue of True Detective have already been published in True Detective, True Crime, Master Detective & Murder Most Foul.
