Description

Just about wherever young Diana Kemp went she thumbed a lift, however short the distance. She was an habitual hitch-hiker, even though her parents and her boy friend had warned her of the obvious dangers. One evening in October, 1969, she stuck out her thumb once too often. Six weeks later her corpse was found in the shadow of Corfe Castle, the victim of a deadly sex attack. But could the driver who took a 15-year-old girl for a ride and didn’t even kiss her really be guilty of such an attack?

Elderly spinster Alice Moran ran a tiny corner shop in Collyhurst, Manchester, where she was rumoured to keep a large black leather bag crammed with bank notes. Of course there was no bag. In fact she had no till because of her fear of being attacked and robbed. Furthermore, her business had been going steadily downhill for some time and she was thinking of closing it for a job at the local handbag factory. However, this didn’t stop someone murdering her. But for what? Her house hadn’t been ransacked and nothing appeared to be missing. In the shop’s backroom two purses containing £23 lay in full view. Forty -six years on "Auntie" Alice’s murder and the identity of her killer and his motive is still a mystery. Did she know her killer? Was he disturbed before he could steal anything, or was there another motive for the crime?

Throughout the investigation the police discovered little about Alice’s private life, So was she the harmless old woman she seemed, or was there a dark secret in her life that finally culminated in her violent death?
