Description

The Shakespearean line, "Something is rotten in the state of Denmark," prompted American police to call their investigation into a child pornography ring, which was first discovered in Denmark, Operation Hamlet. They soon found that there is something rotten throughout the world – when parents are trading pornographic images of their own children over the internet.

How I Survived is the astonishing story of how one woman lived through a night of terror as she fought back against an intruder in her own home and her painful recovery.

You’ve no doubt read about Michael McMahon and David Cooper’s pardon for the Luton post office murder in 1969, but here we give a detailed account of the crime and a conspiracy to convict the two men. Even when fresh evidence was produced which placed McMahon in London at the time of the Luton murder, an appeal judge apparently thought that the prisoner could have travelled through the rush hour to get from east London to Luton in under an hour. A little out of touch, perhaps, but for the men, it meant back to prison. However, weeks later support for McMahon and Cooper came from an unexpected quarter. Lord Devlin declared that the legal system had let the pair down. "They have not been convicted by a jury which has heard the whole of the relevant evidence," he said, adding that the judges should have shown why they thought it was "safe to act on the evidence of an habitual liar who had turned Queen’s Evidence in the hands of a police officer who was not above suspicion." Did we hear right – a former law lord calling into question the honesty of a police officer?

In another controversial case, an American policeman was charged with far more than dishonesty. James Andros, a model citizen and respected officer, devoted husband and father, found his wife dead and himself on the wrong side of the law. Charged with her murder. Portrayed as a "killer cop" the town turned against him.
