Description

America was in turmoil. She had come triumphantly out of the First World War into the Roaring Twenties. But on the home front the cancer of big-time crime was eating away at the moral fibre of the nation, turning politics, business and society putrid with decay. In league with crooked politicans, gun-toting gangsters were taking over the country by stealth and strong-arm tactics, while law-abiding citizens looked on helplessly. But who would halt the crime wave, put the gangsters behind bars and restore law and order to gun-crazy American cities? It certainly wasn’t a job to relish. Whoever took on the task of eradicating the cancerous growth on the body of America had an awesame fight on his hands. The name of the man chosen for that job in 1924 is even today synonymous with iron-fisted police work and grand scale gang-busting. Look out for our new series starting ‘Most Wanted: The Birth Of The FBI.’

Robina Bolton’s husband must have seemed an extraordinary indulgent chap. Four times during the night of Friday, January 13th, 1956, between 8.30 and 12.30 the next morning he chauffeured her from their London home in Westborne Terrace, Paddington, to Hertford Street, Mayfair. Why was he so attentive? Because his wife was a prostitute.

That night five men went to Robina’s flat and had sex. We know one murdered her and one was a True Detective reader. But were they one and the same man? Robina’s death-causing injuries were not self-inflicted, so someone got away with murder.
