Description

When the hire car Stephen Seddon was driving veered off the road into the Bridgewater Canal in Timperley, Manchester, he was hailed a hero after helping to “save” the lives of his elderly parents who were strapped in the back seats. He was even put forward for a bravery award. For his part Seddon was happy to perpetuate the myth. “It’s your family at the end of the day,” he cynically told a reporter. “It’s everything.”

Yet the accolades did little to alleviate Seddon’s insatiable thirst for cash. He was the sole beneficiary of their will but to benefit he needed them both dead. To achieve his goal he had to resort to more severe methods to bring about their deaths. Four months later he put what he considered to be a sure-fire plan into effect. This modern murder shocker from Sale, Greater Manchester is a must-read!

Back in the mid-1860s, the rural County Down village of Ballymacbrennan was plagued by a one-man crime wave. Few villagers were safe from the forays of John Logue. And a four-year stint in Spike Island Prison in Cork Harbour – at that time Ireland’s maximum-security prison – only served to develop his criminal skills, skills that were to lead to the history books via the gallows at Downpatrick Prison on April 19th, 1866. After all, it was to be The Last Public Execution In Ireland.

Although Soho has the reputation of being the centre of London’s vice trade it is also noted for its popular amusement arcades. Profits are large, attracting the attention of organised crime, and in 1989 arcade proprietors informed the police that Chinese gangs were trying to tamper with their machines. Even at the best of times the arcades were no strangers to trouble, but nothing could have prepared one in Wardour Street for the horror its staff were about to suffer.
