Description
A woman witchcraft expert told Detective Inspector Fabian in 1945, "Remember, February was always the sacrificial month. Charles Walton’s murder was just a Druidical sacrifice." The 74-year-old local hedger had been pinned to the ground with his hay-fork, its prongs passing through each side of his neck. His throat and chest had been gashed in the form of a cross, and the billhook used to slice him was embedded in one of the wounds.
February’s True Detective contains other sacrificial lambs, including two-and-a-half-year old Jane Roffey who was so brutally punished by her foster-father Richard Graham that women in the court wept and members of the Old Bailey jury buried their faces in their hands when her wounds were described. Another victim was Mike Blagg’s six-year-old daugther Abby. Potential writers and readers alike will be infringed by the way an author researched the life of murder victim Clara Burton. She died at the hands of a German pastor in 1872 who had "blood lust" because she was a penniless actress who resorted to prostitution and he had connections. Author Betty Burton reveals how she became intrigued and then obsessed with Clara’s story when she discovered a cover-up which Queen Victoria was herself aware. Her obsession led to her novel Josephine and Harriet.
