Description

This month’s True Detective is another bumper issue, boasting eight extra pages and we’ve devoted all eight to a comprehensive listing of the men and women executed in Britain and Ireland between 1900 and 1964 – when the final hangings were carried out in England.

It’s a natural follow-up, some would say, to the March issue’s listing of 30 years’ worth of American executions. But – despite the complications of America’s state and federal structure – compiling an accurate, complete list for these small islands has turned out to be a far greater task. We’ve had to consult many sources, including our own archives, in our quest to ensure we don’t miss out a single hanging – or political execution by firing squad.. We believe we’ve come closer to getting it right than any previous attempt – but we can’t wait to hear what you, our sternest judges, think of it. Don’t hesitate to write to Your Letters and let us know.

And if you find this kind of special feature interesting, as we do, please feel free to send in your ideas for our next pull-out. We’ll give careful consideration to every idea submitted.

In part one of a major new series, ace crime author William Kendal invites readers into the grim dwelling that was 10 Rillington Place – there to experience the dark deeds that led to one of Britain’s most notable trials and saw John Christie give evidence for the prosecution.

Another chilling case, recalls the chance meeting of two men, one combating the snow trying to get his day’s work done, the other out looking for just such a man – to murder.! You must agree, the strangest cases are in TD.
