Description

In the autumn of 1998 capital punishment ended in Britain. In language reminiscent of the days when traitors were brought by boat to the Tower of London to be beheaded, the death penalty for treason and piracy was at last written out of the statute book, the new Act stating in part:

"In Section 1 of the Treason Act (Ireland) 1537, (practising any harm etc., to, or slandering the King, Queen or heirs apparent, punishable as high treason), for the words ‘have and suffer such pains of death,’ there shall be substituted the words, ‘be liable to imprisonment for life.’"

In the same document the Treason Acts of 1790 and 1814 were also rewritten.

But crimes of treason, treachery, pracy; has anybody commited them except in the depths of time?

Ever thought of yourself as an FBI agent tracing serial killers? Sounds a fascinating job; all that psychological business. But in our chilling account, Bill Hagmaier warns: "Once you have visited the dark recesses of the mind of the serial killer, you are never quite the same again."
Keep the day job…
