Description

It really is awful hard to get away with murder, especially if the victim is a relative or business associate. Yet people still try. Our first story is so bizarre – the motive so unlikely – that few people could believe their ears. Why would a thoroughly successful businessman jeopardise his freedom by a vicious act of such monumental stupidity? And how could he hope that all of the witnesses would lie and cover up for him?

Our second story is of a murder no less idiotic. A doctor (who had done a course in biochemistry so he must of been aware of the value of genetic fingerprinting as forensic evidence) had not the wit to realise that a brand-new garden shed going cheap is a bargain few gardeners can resist… He was a murderer whose attempts to conceal the crime were so shoddy that rookie detective could of solved it without bothering to get out of bed in the morning.

When you read cases like those above, it becomes understandable that certain gangsters of old, who managed to pit their wits against the might of the law and murder time and time again without being caught, become elevated to a kind of folk-hero status. But they were crooks who hurt a lot of people – and most came to an ignominious end. Take “Pretty Boy” Floyd for instance. His story begins on page 35 and ends in a hail of bullets…
