Description
There are few more despicable crimes than those perpetrated on the elderly and infirm. They are the most vulnerable to an assailant – and when that assailant goes on to murder habitually, fear among the elderly is rife. The one we have in mind was acting with relative impunity, for an eighth of Paris’s population are pensioners, with roughly half that figure residing alone.
As Richard Walton relates, there has been no set pattern to the killings attributed to the man newspapers call "The Paris Ripper." He apparently roams all over the city, striking down an elderly victim when and where the mood takes him. And yet it does seem possible that police now have him in custody, though only time and a trial will tell for sure.
