Description

Two British murder mysteries dominate this edition, starting with the murder of Polish-born coal miner Jerzsy Strzadala in Aberdare Park in April 1948. “George” as he was known to his Welsh friends finished his day shift at the colliery and headed into town on the bus. He was last seen alive by a fellow-miner at 7.40 p.m. talking to a stranger in a foreign tongue. The next time Jerzsy was seen was at 1 p.m. the following afternoon. He was lying under a bush and had been stabbed 44 times. No clue to the identity of the killer was ever offered, and the mystery is as deep today as it was 54 years ago. Only two people know who killed Jerzsy Strzadala. One lies in Bryngar cemetery, the other could still be alive today…

For many years snow was reputed to fall on “Bloody Lane” on each anniversary of Elizabeth Nelson’s death. Raped and strangled on her way to a lovers’ rendezvous only a mile or two from Lancaster town centre, the mystery surrounding her murder is as baffling now as it was to the police all those years ago.

The only person who could tell what had happened to Kristine Rose was her confused four-year-old son Scott. But it took him years, during which time he used to get “funny memories” regarding her. As he got older those flashbacks began to take on shape and he could describe how he saw his mother lying on the floor turning blue and looking at him helplessly. “I know it was fifteen years after my mother was murdered,” he recalled, “but I just remembered it all so clearly one day. It could have happened yesterday. I just didn’t realise it had been repressed inside me for so long.”
