Description

MD and its sister magazines True Detective, True Crime and Murder Most Foul have an illustrious publishing history going back over half a century in Britain and even longer in the USA. One benefit of this is that we have a huge archive which includes our earliest issues, where more often than not we can find the answers to our readers’ questions about crimes of the past. If you want to learn the full facts about some half-remembered crime – perhaps a local murder you recall hearing about as a child, or a classic gangster case from across the Atlantic – make MD your first stop. Specifically, write to MD Forum and we’ll do our best to track down that elusive story for you – either from our archive, or by putting our researchers on the case. The archive came to the rescue this month, when we heard from a reader in Reading who wanted us to fill in the gaps in the story of Jerome Brudos. Not only were we able to find a contemporary account of the case, from a 1970 issue of True Detective, but we can now reveal that the author of this account, originally published under a pseudonym, is in fact a well-known and respected crime writer who has since had numerous books published – a woman whose name may be very familiar to you. We’re also covering the story of Susan Polk – why did she stab her husband to death. Two of her sons claim she is crazy, another says his dad was the mad one

Letters from the Ripper. Sandra Lester corresponded with Peter Sutcliffe daily for a year. Their intimate relationship is shown in his letters which Master Detective excerpts in this September issue.

These and many more cases in the September issue on sale from August 17th.
