February 12th, 1934, was a special day for two decidedly different reasons. Firstly, it was the birthday of former US president Abraham Lincoln. Second, that year was the day when Washington’s Walla Walla Prison, home to some 1,450 inmates, was the scene of one of the biggest- ever breakouts in the history of the US penitentiary system. Part 1 of a cracking new series.
