Description

Marc Dutroux has been making headlines again in his native Belgium. The serial killer, who kidnapped six young girls in Belgium in the mid-1990s and killed four of them, has written a rambling letter claiming that he too is a victim. See page 18. It’s the first time that the remorseless Dutroux has broken his silence on the case and the letter offers a fascinating insight into the mind of a psychopath. Not surprisingly, the Belgian public have been incensed. And it is hard to imagine that any of the victims’ families would have felt anything other than revulsion at his twisted theorising. Yet at least they have a target for their anger.

The family of Christine Butcher, the seven-year-old from Windsor murdered in 1951 (see page 10), never found out who claimed the child’s life. The case remains open on this 63-year-old mystery.
