Description
This month’s issue sees the beginning of a major series entitled Murder Stories From Old Manchester. It has been researched and written by Sara Lee, who has become the acknowledged expert on north-western murders in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
In this first episode we meet Manchester’s legendary Superintendent James Bent, who barely survived an early encounter with a murderous mob at a steel works in Miles Platting. But survive he did, and later in his career performed a great act of philanthropy – he opened a soup kitchen for destitute children at Old Trafford police station.
We’ve another new series starting in this issue, too – one which looks, month by month, at a century of railway murders. Few of these cases have seen print before, so you’re in for a gripping read. The first episode of On Track To Murder sets the scene with a brutal modern-day killing; future instalments will turn the clock back to some of the 20th century’s most remarkable murder cases.
