A salesman who brutally murdered the night watchman at his place of work made off with £7,000 in two cash boxes. The salesman, Wong Kai-Kei, 25, was speedily caught and in September 1966 sentenced to die.

Kai-Kei attacked the night watchman with a water pipe and an axe at Chung Kin China Products in Castle Peak Road, Hong Kong. The 72-year-old mother of the store manager was also injured in the attack. Kai-Kei was hanged at Stanley Prison on Wednesday, November 16th, 1966.

After the execution all other death sentences in the colony, totalling 263, were commuted on instructions from London that no more executions must be carried out.
