“I killed her for the fun of it, to see what would happen,” Robert Morton, 23, told police who came to arrest him for the murder of Sharon Ashford, 14. Later he said that on the day of the murder his 15-year-old girl friend walked out on him, so he decided to kill Sharon out of revenge.

He stabbed the schoolgirl, who lived next door to him in Oranjezicht, a suburb of Cape Town, 40 times, leaving a trail of blood to his own doorstep. A plea of insanity was rejected and he was hanged at Pretoria Central Prison on Wednesday, February 27th, 1974.
