It wasn’t just the boss of All Car Equipe in Wrotham, Kent, who vanished on Friday, June 8, 1990 – it was also five of his prized cars, worth a total of over £100,000. The cars were all recovered within a matter of days, but of Nick Whiting, the company’s millionaire boss, there was no sign.

Whiting, a former British saloon car champion driver, and his cars vanished after a bandit raid on his showroom. Nearly a month later, on July 2nd, police received a tip-off that led them to dig up his body from a shallow grave on Rainham Marshes in Essex.

They believed he was beaten, bound and gagged, shoved into the boot of a car and later frog-marched for some two miles before being shot in the head.
