Anxious that something may have happened to his mother, Shane Mills and his aunt Gay Cadden broke into his parents’ home in Weymouth Avenue, Hillingdon, and found her dead from multiple stab wounds.

Next day, Tuesday, May 31st, 1994, the body of Mrs. Murrells’ husband Kenneth was found in Victoria Lane, Harlington, where he kept horses.

Kenneth Murrells was a retired Metropolitan policeman. They were a reclusive couple who, according to a local newspaper report, rarely opened their windows.

At their funeral Gay Cadden said: “They would have known the man who killed them really well. There is no way it would have been a stranger.” A man was arrested, but no charge was ever brought.
