It was described as the most baffling murder in South Wales in modern times when Harry and Megan Tooze were found shot dead at their farmhouse in Llanharry, near Bridgend, on Saturday, July 31st, 1993.

The first police investigation led to the conviction for murder of the 35-year-old boy friend of the couple’s daughter. He was found guilty in April, 1995, but a year later his conviction was quashed. In 2000 South Wales Police appointed a lay panel to take a fresh look at the case – the third occasion on which the local police had used lay people to report on unsolved murder cases.

On the tenth anniversary of the murder in 2003 police issued another appeal for witnesses, but the crime remains unsolved.
