Newsagents, many of whom work alone, rank almost as high as taxi drivers in the murder victim stakes. One who was murdered for his days takings was Ernest Bennett, 57, who had been a newsagent in George Lane, Lewisham, London, for 10 years. During the night of Thursday, November 21st, 1968, he was battered to death and his body dumped in an old air-raid shelter in the area behind the shop. The killer took £200 from the till.
