A Nigerian priest, Alfa Apalata, who harangued and denounced a crowd belonging to a tribal cult called the Yorobus, was suddenly set upon and dragged down by pummelling fists and kicking feet. He was never seen alive again and his body was never found.

Seventeen members of the Yorobus were tried for his murder and 11 of them were convicted. Witnesses said that all 11 were involved in taking away Mr. Apalata and killing him. They were hanged on Wednesday, May 26th, 1954, in Lagos Central Prison.
