The five month old marriage of Croatian refugee Cvijo Cvijetic, 37, and his German wife seemed made in heaven – until they decided to take a lodger into their home in Walter Street, Derby.

The lodger, Dane Glumac, was also a Croatian, aged
50, and pretty soon Cvijetic became convinced that his wife was being seduced by the newcomer. Without warning and without a word being spoken, he stabbed Glumac to death in a frenzied attack in their living-room.

On NOVEMBER 15th, 1954, Cvijetic was found guilty but insane and sent to Broadmoor. The irony of the case was that the lodger had never touched his wife.
