A pretty young Australian girl, Emma Plush, rejected her lover Carlos Bonello and began dating a new boy friend. Furious, Bonello bought a gun, stalked the couple for two weeks, and on the same day that he had made up his mind to leave the South Australian town of Nuriootpa for good, shot and killed Emma.

He then turned the gun on himself. It misfired and he gave himself up to the police.

In the death cell he seemed remarkably relieved and happy. He spoke warmly of the kindness shown by all around him, slept well on his final night on earth, and went smiling to the hangman at 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 5th, 1910, in Adelaide Prison.
