Pensioner Sydney Leeson, 75, hid £20 in his home in Sweetbriar Road, Leicester, and it cost him his life. On SEPTEMBER 12th, 1965, a burglar broke in, beat the old man to death in the hallway with a flower vase, and made off with the cash.

Since the death of his wife four years previously, Mr. Leeson had given a home to a number of young couples. Police began searching for a man and a woman who were living there three weeks earlier. They also looked for a man in a duffel coat who tried to borrow a ladder to “get something” from number seven, the house next door to Mr. Leeson’s.

None of these leads produced anything. The burglar who beat Sidney Leeson to death has never been caught.
