A crowd several hundred strong outside Georgetown Prison, Guyana, burst into spontaneous applause when Ayub Khan, 25, was hanged there on Tuesday, February 13th, 1996. In June, 1990, Khan had tried to steal a bicycle belonging to 11-year-old schoolboy Michael Ramcharren. When the boy resisted, Khan stabbed him to death.
