Hanging has been the execution method of choice for murder in far more countries than just the UK. This section focuses on judicial hangings in the 20th century around the world.
Worldwide Hangings: July
July 21st 21/7/1989 Derrick Gregory – Malaysia
The dubious distinction of being the first Briton to be hanged for drug trafficking in the former British colony of Malaysia fell to Derrick Gregory on Friday, July 21st, 1989. Gregory, from Richmond-on-Thames, was arrested at Bayan Lepas international airport in October 1982, while carrying over 500 grams of heroin in his underpants.
In the seven years between his arrest and execution it was claimed that he was mentally backward, but the Malay judiciary decided otherwise. He was executed in Pudu Prison, Kuala Lumpur.
