True Crime News: 12/12/2007 Andrew Mournian
ANDREW MOURNIAN, 36, an unemployed heroin addict and alcoholic, has been found guilty of murdering his girl friend within five days of early release from prison. Mournian had been jailed five times before being released early in August from a 20-week sentence for assaulting his girl friend Amanda Murphy, 47, in June.
On being released he attacked Miss Murphy at their flat in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, when he discovered that she had been sleeping with his brother while he was detained. She suffered fatal brain injuries and fractures to the face and ribs and died three days later in hospital.
The judge at Leeds Crown Court sentenced him to life imprisonment, with a recommendation that he serve a minimum of 14 years.
This case has increased pressure for the government to scrap emergency early release schemes for prisoners in England and Wales; brought in to solve temporary prison overcrowding. Crime news stories from True Crime Library.
