Worldwide Hangings: December
Execution By Hanging:
Rasha and Abeer Ibrahim – Jordan
For a small country Jordan has executed a surprising number of women in recent times. There were 103 civilian executions between 1994 and 2004, nine of them involving women.
Executions are carried out in private at Swaqa Prison, 45 miles south of the capital Amman, but female executions attract large numbers of officials. On Thursday, December 3rd, 1998, the audience chamber was full when two Egyptian sisters, Rasha and Abeer Ibrahim, aged 19 and 24 respectively, were hanged for robbing and killing Abeer’s elderly employer.
